Do you give quotes?
No, we do not give quotes. We do give estimates. Boat repair is similar to home renovations in that, until you open her up, you can never be 100% sure of the full extent of the job. Weather, temperature, and logistics all have an influence on marine repairs and are out of our control. We do write detailed estimates, that attempt to take every part of the job into consideration.
What are your rates?
$120 per hour for mobile labour
$ 90 per hour for shipyard labour (at Shelter Island Marina)
12% of labour for perishables
6% for administration / service fees
Material charges are on a job to job basis
Transportation is charged at the general labour rate from our office to your location
Do you have a shop?
Yes, we do have a shop at Shelter Island Marina and have the capacity to lift boats 30 ft. - 150 ft. We also provide mobile boat repair services. This means that we come to you and work were it is most convent for you. We work on location at marinas, yacht clubs, driveways, and boat yards. Please call before coming.
What is the process for working with you?
The first step is to give us a call or e-mail us.
We will need your full name, phone number, e-mail address, the name of your boat, the make and model of your boat, the year, the current location and what the presenting problem is or the nature of the work you would like. It is always helpful if you e-mail us a picture of the boat and the area in question.
Book an appointment for us to come out and see the boat and a free consultation.
We will give you a general idea of the cost of the repairs, refit, rebuild, or maintenance after we see your boat.
If you would like a written detailed estimate, we require a $150 + tax. When you accept the job, this becomes a part of your down-payment.
To accept a job with us, you will be asked to sign a written estimate, sign our work agreement and give a deposit (between 30% - 50% depending on the size of the job). At that time we will give you a start date.
Does your work come with a guarantee?
Yes, we guarantee our work. Please call us any time if you have any questions or concerns.
How do you work with changes?
We work with change contracts for changes. To make things fair for all our clients, we take changes and additions to the job very seriously. If a job has any changes, or surprises, we stop and let the client know. At that point we write up a new estimate so that you know what the changes will cost, and you can decide how you would like to proceed. We try to prevent surprises, including the final bill. We want you to know how much the job will cost, and if there are going to be changes, we want you to make all the choices and decisions for your boat.
Why are boat repairs so expensive?
We pride ourselves as providing a high level of professionalism. As a professional mobile boat repair company you are paying for the convenience of having us come to you, insurance, work permits, Work Safe BC, certified marine technicians and professional support staff. Boats are expensive and it is important that they be maintained and repaired by certified, knowledgeable, skilled professionals. This makes for safe boats and safe boating.
Can I get your technicians phone number
No, we do not give our our shipwrights or technicians phone number out to our clients. We want you to know that when we are working on your boat, we are not on the phone speaking to other clients. You and your boat is our priority. If you have any concerns, please phone the office and speak to Ady. She can contact our shipwrights and let them know your concerns. If need be they will phone you back. We believe this helps make our work days the most productive and cost efficient as possible.
